The BSAC is the British Sub-Aqua Club, and it is passionate about scuba diving. They are the top dive club in the United Kingdom, and they are the national governing body. Training

This club has been in operation since 1953 and is operated by divers. It is specifically designed for support and training for divers. The British Sub-Aqua Club has international recognition, also.

You do not have to be a certified or experienced diver to take advantage of this club. They offer training on all levels. Students can progress at the pace that they wish. After your entry level training, you can advance to the next level, and continue through many different levels.

You can be in one of five diver grades, and the lowest is called Ocean Diver. The top BSAC grade is First Class Diver. You will train with qualified instructors in the safest of environments. You decide how fast you want to progress. Here is a look at the five levels of training.

Ocean Diver

There are five basic elements in the Ocean Diver course. When you decide to take this training, you first have a basic assessment of your swimming skills. You have seven different lessons in the classroom. You also will five lessons in controlled water environment, and five lessons out in the open water. You also will have extensive training in diving theory.

Diver Theory Training

Part of your theory training will include dive planning. This includes learning how nitrogen affects you as a diver. You will also learn about dive computers.

You are introduced to the BSAC and all of its benefits are explained. You will have training and understanding in Scuba equipment, and this also covers dive signals. You also learn about the effects that diving has on the human body.

Sports Diver

Sports Diver training covers the classroom, sheltered water, and open water. You learn about the importance of risk assessment and rescue diving. This also covers things like resuscitation. Proper rescue technique as well as CPR is also covered. This kind of training also includes use of a dive compass, and decompression stops.

Dive Leader

This BSAC course prepares you to be a dive leader. It has a lot more classes than previous ones and is more intense training. Rescue operations with helicopters are also covered. You study about the importance of dive management, shot lines, and dealing with emergencies as they happen.

Advanced Diver

This course does not include a lot of formal lessons. Instead, it focuses on gaining more diving experience in a number of different conditions. It provides things like expedition planning and ocean awareness.

First Class Diver

First class is the top level. It is not an easy class to achieve and requires a great deal of skill and understanding. Many will try and few will succeed.
